Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced a one-time initiative to help accelerate permanent residence processing for up to 33,000 workers who are already living and working in smaller Canadian communities.
The announcement is relevant to workers and employers in regional areas, including Atlantic Canada, where immigration programs such as the Provincial Nominee Program and Atlantic Immigration Program support long-term workforce needs.
This is not a new immigration program. Rather, IRCC is prioritising eligible permanent residence applications that are already in process.
Key Messages
* IRCC is accelerating permanent residence processing for up to 33,000 workers who are already living in smaller Canadian communities.
* This is not a new immigration program, and applicants do not need to submit a new application.
* It applies to workers who have already applied through programs such as:
* Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
* Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)
* Community immigration pilots
* Caregiver pilots
* Agri-Food Pilot
* Eligible workers must generally have been living in a smaller Canadian community for at least two years.
Good to Know
* The initiative is focused on workers who are already established in Canada and contributing to local communities.
* It may benefit eligible applicants whose permanent residence applications are already in IRCC’s inventory.
* For Newfoundland and Labrador employers and workers, the announcement reinforces the importance of regional pathways such as NLPNP and AIP.
* Applicants should continue to follow IRCC instructions and keep their application information up to date.
* This announcement does not mean every applicant under these programs will automatically receive permanent residence. Eligibility and final decisions remain subject to IRCC assessment.
